Thanksgiving Food Drive
Today we wrapped up our Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit the Euclid Hunger Center. ESLC families chose a feather off of a turkey display located on the child’s classroom door. Each feather listed a food item that they could donate. Families brought in their non-perishable items between November 14-November 21, 2011. Early Steps Learning Center collected just over 100 canned and boxed goods that were donated to the Euclid Hunger Center for Thanksgiving. Thank you to our families for participating and
Fall Harvest Celebration
Our Fall Harvest Celebration was a ton of fun for the children and staff! Most everyone dressed in costume and we have to say that the CUTEST kids are at ESLC! Take a look for yourself, we think you will agree!
Preschool Vision Screening
Members of the Cleveland Sight Center visited Early Steps Learning Center to conduct vision screenings with all of our Preschool children today. Children were asked to identify pictures that they had been shown beforehand and all received a sticker once they were done! All children were given a “report” of their screening and referred for follow-up care with an eye doctor if necessary. Thank you, Cleveland Sight Center, for your time and care with our preschoolers!
Preschool Safety Walk
All of our Preschool programs went on a very important Safety Walk. The purpose of the walk was to teach the children “street safety”. Several days before the walk we discussed street safety with the preschoolers using pictures. Today was the big day – we made a 30 minute round-trip walk to the University Hospitals Richmond Medical Center. During the walk we practiced walking on the sidewalk, stopping at the crosswalk, waiting if the sign indicates ‘do not cross’, and looking

Graduation Ceremony
Highland Heights Community Center was host to our graduating pre-kindergarten class and their families for a special ceremony. As 19 graduates looked forward to attending the “big school this fall”, many families shed tears of joy and pride as their little one marched across the stage to receive their diploma. The highlight of the event was when the graduates slowly turned around with shades on and started to sing “Get Ready, because here we come” (our own version of the
New Outdoor Fun
Our preschoolers were VERY excited to see a NEW playground structure in the ESLC play yard! We recently purchased and installed a Rainbow Play System on our preschool playground. Think back to your favorite childhood moments; chances are you were knee-deep in the land of pretend. The Rainbow Play System not only provides your child with his or her own imaginative play and learning environment, but also provides the child of today a much needed fitness center. Kids don’t just
Earth Day Celebration
To teach our kids about recycling and get them actively involved, we challenged our classrooms to an “Earth Day Competition”. The kids collect recyclables and brought them into the Center. In total they collected over 5,000 pieces to be donated to the recycling center. All classrooms also made the school’s first Earth Day murals, made entirely of recycled materials. These murals took on a life of their own very quickly! Unlike other bulletin boards, these murals were 3-D thanks to
